Six Drams, Six Cheeses & a Highball to Start
November is when a dram makes the most sense. On Friday 13 November, Ian Macleod Distillers join us for an evening of six of their whiskies, from Speyside, the Highlands, Islay and Skye. Each one is paired with a cheese chosen by our kitchen to sit alongside it.
You’ll arrive to a Glengoyne White Oak highball. White Oak is the newest member of the Glengoyne family, matured entirely in American oak. Then on to the pairings.
Isle of Skye 12 Year Old, with Clava brie
A blended Scotch from Ian Macleod and an easy place to begin.
Tamdhu 15 Year Old, with Crowdie
From Speyside, where Tamdhu has been distilling on the banks of the Spey since 1897. It’s matured entirely in sherry casks.
Smokehead Tequila Cask, with Black crowdie
The curveball of the night. It’s a peated Islay single malt, matured in ex-bourbon barrels and then finished in casks that held Mexican tequila. Expect smoke and wild agave together.
Glengoyne 24 Year Old White Oak, with Elrick Goats cheese
A limited release, matured only in American and virgin oak. Glengoyne’s own notes mention vanilla, lemon curd, honey and coconut.
Glengoyne 25 Year Old, with Magnus hammer cheddar
The same Highland distillery, taken the other way: matured exclusively in European oak sherry casks. Think red fruits, old leather and brown sugar.
Tamdhu 21 Year Old, with Blue murder
The one to finish on. It’s fully matured in Oloroso sherry casks, and Tamdhu’s notes read like Christmas cake: sherry-soaked raisins, candied orange and gentle oak.
All served with crackers, sticky fig chutney and Arran plum and apple chutney.
It’s £50 per person, from 7pm to 9.30pm.
If you’d rather not drive home after six drams, our Fireside offer runs on Friday nights. Bed and breakfast starts from £110 with the code FIRESIDE26.
